Chocolate is one of my all time favourite things, that, along with travel of course. So I cannot tell you how happy I was to find the ultimate chocolate heaven in Rome.
Venchi, has every kind of sweet treat you could possibly want.
Chocolate is the main event, and at one end of the shop there’s a huge wall of little pick and mix chocolates in every variety; white, milk, dark, nut, flavoured, filled…I think you get the idea.
Next there’s the gelato. Choose a cone, and it’ll be run under a tap of constantly flowing chocolate, before it’s dipped in your choice of dark chocolate shavings, hazelnuts or caramelised hazelnuts, and we haven’t even got to the gelato yet.
Choices include a vast array of chocolate options, but there’s also creamy and fruit flavours. Whatever you choose, it’s guaranteed to be one of the best things you’ve ever tasted (and yes, that is a wall of dripping chocolate at the back of the shop)!
Whilst you’re there, make sure to also order a freshly cooked crepe. It’ll be lavishly adorned with Venchi’s rich chocolate spread. Little jars of this amazing stuff are also available in the shop so you can recreate the joy at home.
There’s more good news, if you don’t get a chance to try it whilst out and about in Rome, there are two in Fiumicino airport so there’s time to squeeze in a final holiday treat. Plus, I was happy to find out once I got home that they also have branches in London.
Next time I’m in Covent Garden I’ll be stopping by.
