Waking up to the noise of heavy rain on the windows, we needed something to do on such a horrible day.

A quick search on our phones over a morning cuppa, and we came across a deal on Travelzoo for use of the spa and an afternoon tea at East Sussex National Hotel.

We packed up our kit and drove over to the hotel.

After a quick workout in the gym to try and burn off some of the Christmas over-indulgence, we headed into the spa area.

The hotel has a large swimming pool surrounded by beds for relaxing between dips. There is a lovely hot jacuzzi for a relaxing soak,  and a steam room and sauna. It was absolute bliss, and just the thing we had been craving.

After a good long soak, we headed to the restaurant and we sat at a lovely table with glorious views of the countryside, just in time to watch the sunset.

Soon, a pot of tea arrived along with our treats.

Sandwiches, scones with jam and lashings of clotted cream and a variety of delicious cakes and biscuits, all washed down with a glass of prosecco each too.

Look at those two huge scoops of clotted cream! Absolute heaven.

A pretty perfect way to escape the rain I’d say!
