My dream destinations for 2018

2

There’s something especially magical about experiencing a place for the first time. Part of the fun for me is the planning and thinking about all the incredible new places I could see, and experiences I can tick off my bucket list.

2017 was a particularly good year for travel, as I was lucky enough to visit New York, USA; Maastricht, the Netherlands; Denia, Spain; Reykjavik, Iceland and Rome, Italy. I loved all of these trips and in the case of New York, Rekjavik and Rome they were all new places I had never been before. It was incredible to visit some world famous sites, try some local cuisine (Iceland for example, has the best fish you’ll ever taste!) and live amoungst the locals for a few days. That is what I love about travel.

It’s incredibly exciting to think what this year may bring. There are more places in this list than time and budget will allow, but hey, you’ve got to dream!

Japan – I would love to do a tour of Japan to see Kyoto, Tokyo and Mount Fuji. My Dad has visited Japan every year for work for years so it’s somewhere that’s always interested me.

California – My husband and I have discussed doing a tour of California and our itinerary would include driving the famous Pacific Coast Highway from San Diego, via Los Angeles and ending up in San Francisco. We would then like to hop over to Las Vegas and take a trip to the Grand Canyon.

Paris – For one reason or another, I’ve never made it to Paris, and that’s something I’d like to put right this year.

Sorrento – I have found a beautiful hotel with stunning views of the Bay of Naples in Sorrento, and I’d love to visit this year. A trip to the gorgeous island of Capri would definitely be included as well.

Lake Como – Como is another place we have been meaning to go for years, but again have never quite made it. I can just imagine enjoying a cold glass of prosecco whilst taking in the views of the beautiful lakes, pure bliss!

Hong Kong – Having watched Travel Man: 48 Hours in Hong Kong over the Christmas break, Hong Kong has moved up the list a few places. The city looks incredible and taking the famous tram to Victoria Peak to take in views of the city is definitely on my bucket list.

Prague – Prague is such a beautiful city and I would love to visit the Old Town Square and see the Charles Bridge. Of course, finding some good bars to sampling some local beer would be pretty good too.

New Zealand – This is unlikely to happen this year for one reason or another but it has to be included. Anywhere with scenery as incredible as New Zealand is going to be the experience of a lifetime. I would love to start in Queenstown and make my way all the way up to Auckland exploring all the best sights on the way.

Lisbon – I have technically been to Lisbon, but it was only for a day so I would like to visit again and explore the city properly. Being warmer and on the coast is obviously a plus but the city is also very pretty, with the quaint trams and beautiful coloured buildings in the old town. Of course, there’s also the delicious food and wine!

If you have been to any of these places and can recommend hotels, restaurants or sightseeing, please let me know in the comments below. I’d also love to hear your plans for travel in 2018.

  • This is such a great travel bucket list for 2018, Leven! New Zealand has been on my bucket list for quite some time as well. Side note: I think you and your husband will absolutely love the PCH! Take plenty of time to drive down and catch some great pictures.

    • Thanks Melanie! Good tip on the PCH, we would like to try and Have a least two weeks but we’ll have to see.
