My husband Neil and I recently celebrated our first wedding anniversary, and he treated me to a wonderful day out in the beautiful Kent countryside as a surprise treat.
Driving out through the stunning scenery to the pretty village of Biddenden we were lucky enough to have blue skies and blazing sunshine to enjoy the views. Our first stop was for an anniversary lunch at the West House restaurant. The West House is a gorgeous family run restaurant in a 16th Century weaver’s cottage and holds a Michelin star for it’s wonderful food. We couldn’t wait to choose our feast.
To begin we were welcomed with cheese croquettes with a cider gel, along with some delicious homemade bread and and olives, accompanied by a glass of Rosehip Fizz (Sacred Rosehip Cup liquer and prosecco – divine).
For starter, I choose crispy chicken wings, with a parmesan sauce, roast onions, dandelion and bacon. Not only was this beautifully presented, but it tasted incredible. The combination of flavours and textures were simply delicious.
Neil opted for the smoked haddock with quails egg and bacon dressing, this was also a winner.
The main course didn’t disappoint either. Wonderfully cooked tender beef with a potato terrine, cabbage, spring onions and wasabi foam – incredible.
Dessert, always the highlight of a meal for me as I definitely have a sweet tooth. I choose hazelnut cake with tiramisu cream and buttermilk ice cream. I couldn’t fault it. There was even a disc of chocolate on the top to ‘sweeten’ the deal.
Even the tea came with treats! Homemade carrot chocolates and little madeleine cakes to enjoy.
Needless to say we left with big smiles and full stomachs. Now where better to walk off a big meal than Scotney Castle?
What better way to spend an afternoon than strolling around a beautiful old country castle in the sunshine. This place is brimming with gorgeous flowers, impressive architecture and stunning views. It really transports you back in time.
A perfect day out.
