Summer Staycation: A Wonderful Weekend in Eastbourne

As much as the Levenstyle team love getting on a plane and visiting faraway lands, we also believe you can’t beat a nice weekend break somewhere in the UK. There’s something really nice about a weekend away that leaves you feeling refreshed and recharged, even better if you haven’t had to experience the stress and effort of catching a flight to get there.

Driving down to Eastbourne on a Friday evening works really well, as you can get up fresh for the day ahead. You also get to try another of the restaurants whilst you’re here. If the budget doesn’t stretch to the extra hotel night, you can easily have a great weekend away with just one night over.

The best way to start exploring this lovely town is with a walk along the seafront. Breathing in the sea air will make you feel miles away from city life. The beach is dotted with cafes serving hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks so you won’t go hungry. However, a classic British picnic is our pick here, it’s cheaper, and you can enjoy it whilst relaxing on the lovely beach.

Birling Gap and Seven Sisters

Birling Gap is a beautiful and scenic pebble beach with the amazing backdrop of the Seven Sister’s cliffs. This awe-inspiring view will be one of the highlights of your weekend, there’s a reason why coach loads of tourists visit here throughout the day. This stunning unspoilt part of the south coast, with it’s spectacular views of the cliffs and sea, is the perfect place to enjoy a weekend walk, just don’t get to close to the cliff edge! There’s also a National Trust cafe, shop and car park. To find out more visit the National Trust website.

Eating out

If you’re after an evening meal we like The Belgian Cafe, with it’s huge range of beers and wonderful seafood, it’s often busy here so booking a table is recommended at peak times.

For a tasty, good value meal Rosetto is a good choice. It has a large range of pizza and pasta dishes, as well as meat, fish and salads, so if you’re in a large group there’s bound to be something for everyone.

If you prefer a pub, then the The Ship Inn is ideal and just a short drive from the seafront. The menu includes tradional pub dishes, and the portions are very generous so you won’t go home hungry.

Jevington Tea Gardens is a lovely quaint little place for afternoon tea, with wonderful homemade cakes, scones and sandwiches, this is the perfect place to stop after a visit to Birling Gap. The gardens are beautiful and the owners and staff are friendly and welcoming, a must try!

Top Tips for a Perfect Weekend:

  • Make sure you have some cash on you, many of the beachfront cafes and bars are cash only, and you don’t want to waste precious beach relaxation time searching in the town centre for a cash machine.
  • Parking is hard to come by along the seafront, so either book a hotel with parking or arrive early to get a space.
  • Don’t leave without having an ice cream, both Favoloso and Fusciardi’s serve delicious ice cream.
